Positive Mitzvah 49: The Yom Kippur service
Leviticus 16:34 "And this shall be an everlasting law for you"This Positive Mitzvah sums up the detailed commandments regarding the service on Yom Kippur.
We are instructed to offer the many sacrifices of this holy day and recite special confessional prayers.
Positive Mitzvah 118: Misusing Something that has been Declared Holy
Leviticus 5:16 "And he shall make restitution pay for that which he has done wrong with the holy thing"Anything which has been designated for use in the Beit HaMikdash is considered holy and cannot be used for any other purpose.
For example, if a person set aside money to be donated to the Beit HaMikdash, he must use it for that purpose. If he makes use of the money in any other manner, he must pay back a greater amount; the money originally promised plus a fine.
This fine is one-fifth of that new total.
For instance, if someone set aside the sum of one hundred dollars to be donated to the Beit HaMikdash, and then failed to do so, he would be required to donate one hundred twenty-five dollars; the hundred dollars he promised, plus twenty-five dollars, one fifth of the new total, as a fine.
G-d told Noah that the world was to be destroyed. Noah asked what he should do. G-d told him to build an ark to save his family and all the animal species. Noah built an ark. After the flood, Noah beheld a desolate, empty world and broke into tears. "How, oh Merciful Creator," he plainted, "could you do such to your creation?!" G-d replied, "Now you cry!? Now you have complaints!? You foolish shepherd! Where were your grievances when I first appeared to you? Had you spoken up then, you could have saved the world!" Noah was a righteous man, but he was a Tzaddik in a fur coat.
